The Northern Life Museum & Cultural Centre brings together an amazing array of cultural and natural collections from the region known historically as Thebacha, which includes sections of northern Alberta and the southern Northwest Territories.
In the Main Gallery you can glimpse the traditional lifestyle of First Nations and Metis people of this area. Traditional arts and crafts are highlighted and as you progress through the displays you will learn how exploration and development shaped the region and its people. A "must see" is an original copy of Treaty 8 that has been wonderfully restored. As well, there is the opportunity to see two mounted bison and Canus, a whooping crane that played a significant role in revitalizing the decimated flock. The lower galleries regularly host temporary exhibits that can include photography, painting, quilting, carving, stained glass and many other arts and crafts.
The newly opened outdoor Aboriginal Culture Centre depicts a traditional working camp including a cold cache, fish drying rack, hide fleshing frame and other work stations. Besides being an exhibit it is used by the community for teaching of traditional activities and storytelling.
