Originals by T-BO

Francois "T-BO" Thibault began this journey from a one-man carving workshop in the small Canadian northern community of Yellowknife. Just like the gems, precious metals and the various materials found in his works, Thibault unique creations stood out and soon the young artist’s vision and passion for design carried him from these humble beginnings to his place as one of the most acknowledged artist of the North.

If prestigious commissions are an accurate reflection of an artist’s reknown, T-BO started on this path to the upper echelons of his craft when he was awarded the single largest artist contract at the World Exposition in Vancouver, BC. and featured at the World Exposition in Seville, Spain. He was later commissioned to design and created the official gifts given by the City of Yellowknife to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip upon their visit to Canada’s Northlands. Over the next decade, Thibault carved his place amongst the North’s art community, and continued to fashion intricate masterworks for discerning clienteles, corporate organizations and governments.

T-BO reached the pinnacle of recognition when the BHP Billiton’s Ekati Diamond Mine’s “signature piece” was selected for the cover of the Gemological Institute of America’s Gem & Gemology’s quarterly journal. Now acknowledged by the GIA, this coup marked a first for a Canadian diamond jewellery designer to have his works featured a cover page by the world’s foremost gemological authority in over a 75 year period.

In the fall of 2009, T-BO expanded his mediums and included steel to his repertoire by creating the United in Celebration Somba K’e Park sculpture, a 20 foot tall 7 tons monolithic icon that will greet thousands of visitors and new comers to the city of Yellowknife. Today T-BO is found at his bench working on his latest designs, The Wise Women Awards, commissioned by the Status of Women, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.
