A challenge for world class mountaineers, the Cirque is located in the Ragged Range, near Glacier Lake. The Cirque's most famous peak – a must for every serious climber - is the Lotus Flower Tower, featured in Fifty Classic Climbs in North America. The Vampire Spires are granite towers some 40 km away that challenge even the Cirque.
There are many hiking opportunities in Nahanni National Park Reserve, accessible from the river. Hikers can spot a variety of wildlife including moose, Dall's sheep, woodland caribou, black and grizzly bears, wolves, snowshoe hares, falcons, and eagles.
Nahanni National Park Reserve is definitely one of Canada’s greatest treasures, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But Nahanni Country is more than the Park. It includes the Nahanni Range and communities nestling in the foothills in the southwest corner of the Northwest Territories. There's Fort Simpson, regional centre and Mackenzie River town with a 200 year history. And there's tiny Nahanni Butte, at the mouth of the South Nahanni River.
At over 90 metres, twice the height of Niagara Falls, Nailicho, or Virginia Falls on the South Nahanni River in Nahanni National Park Reserve is a symbol of wild Nahanni Country.
