Canoeing Rivers in Dehcho Our rivers are powerful and fast flowing, rushing to join the Mackenzie. The Hay River is navigable from the Alberta border to Twin Falls Park. Canoeists can tackle the Kakisa River from the campground as far as the Mackenzie River, with a pull-out at Jean Marie River.

Jean Marie River

Heading west on the Deh Cho Travel Connection, there is a narrow all-weather road on the left leading to scenic Jean Marie River (Tthek'ehdelj, "water flowing over clay"). The community is at the confluence of the Jean Marie and Mackenzie rivers. Residents practice traditional ways, subsistence hunting, trapping and fishing.
