Looking for a good fight, or just a great meal? Anglers can fish for more than nine top species in the Northwest Territories.
Visitors and residents over the age of 16 and under 65 require Northwest Territories fishing licences, available by mail, from government offices or at lodges and convenience stores across the territory.
The Northwest Territories lodges and guides offer a variety of superb fishing experiences. Choose the comforts of a cozy cabin on a private lake, with home-cooked meals. Packages range from a day or two to a week or longer. Fly-in to a remote lodge by floatplane, or land in a jet on a wilderness runway at a luxury lodge. Our lodges can be miles from towns and villages, but several offer convention facilities, hot tubs, saunas, Internet access, massage services, gourmet meals, bar service and satellite television.
Guides based in the communities can escort visitors to fishing hot spots for a day or longer. They often possess generations of knowledge passed down from the Elders. They will share their experiences on the land and water and some of the lore of this spectacular country. Guests can learn the habits of the fish and can rely on their guides for safety in the wilderness.
Visitors can also fish on their own. Canoe, kayak or boat rentals are available in many communities. There are boat launches along the highways and in Northwest Territories parks. No matter where you travel in the Northwest Territories, a fishing experience is always nearby.
