Looking for a good fight, or just a great meal? Anglers can fish for more than nine top species in the Northwest Territories.
Visitors and residents over the age of 16 and under 65 require Northwest Territories fishing licences, available by mail, from government offices or at lodges and convenience stores across the territory.
In spring, the ice fishing season heats up. Grab some rays on a quiet lake beside a warm fire, close to a cozy lodge. In April and May, ride to a remote lake on a snowmobile, or travel to your ice fishing vacation by dog team. On the Arctic coast, jig for char in a warm tent, through a hole in the ice. Elsewhere you can fish for trout, pike and pickerel on inland lakes. A warm spring sun, a cozy fire and a warm welcome at a nearby lodge makes for a perfect ice fishing trip. It's a Canadian pastime made legendary in the Northwest Territories.
