The Government of the Northwest Territories publishes a summary each year of the NWT Hunting Regulations.
Arctic hunts are usually arranged through local outfitters and guided by Inuvialuit hunters. The experience begins with your flight from Inuvik to one of the smaller Arctic communities: Tuktoyaktuk, Paulatuk, Ulukhaktok or Sachs Harbour. You’ll be met by your guide, stay at a small hotel and prepare for the hunt of a lifetime.
You’ll experience the traditional way of life that shaped the survival skills of the Inuvialuit. You’ll also learn about the austere and unforgiving Arctic environment, and perhaps spend a few nights camped in an igloo. This is hunting in its purest form, with respect paid to the land, the animals and the subsistence they provide to the people.
Our experienced guides are licenced by the Government of the Northwest Territories. They’ll organize every detail of your hunt, conducted by dogsled, in the authentic Inuvialuit tradition. In a way, you’re an invited guest on an Aboriginal hunting party. You may be invited to meet local families and share in community celebrations.
Certain caribou herds are currently off-limits in order to protect this resource for future generations.
