The Government of the Northwest Territories publishes a summary each year of the NWT Hunting Regulations.
Most hunters visiting the Arctic have their sights set on polar bears and muskoxen. The Western Arctic coast and islands of the Northwest Territories are home to three sub-populations of polar bears — approximately 3,000 in total. Two sub-populations are stable, and the third appears to be growing. Muskoxen populations number in the thousands. You can also hunt wolves and grizzlies in the Western Arctic.
Travelling by dog team on the sea ice, you might come across seals, or on land, Arctic foxes and hares. You can even try your hand at ice fishing. If the weather is right, you might have an opportunity to travel the western portion of the fabled Northwest Passage.
