Bring Your Bird Book

PtarmiganWith four North American flyways providing access to our land, there are some wonderful bird watching opportunities in the Northwest Territories.

The skies and ponds in late spring and summer are filled with the chatter of magnificent raptors, shorebirds, songbirds, ducks and geese.

Several bird sanctuaries in the north protect waterfowl, since one-fifth of the North American continental population of ducks, geese and swans nest here.

The Northwest Territories is home to a few species year round, as well. They include chickadees, jays, ravens and snowy owls.
