Cross Country Skiing

SkiingSkiers can practice on trails made famous by Canada's first Olympic cross country team. Sisters Sharon and Shirley Firth, and many others from the Northwest Territories, spent 16 years in the forefront of cross country skiing representing Canada at national and international events. Cross country skiing is still popular and future champions are working their way up the skiing ladder.

There's an active ski club in Inuvik, Norman Wells, Yellowknife and other large communities. Many kilometres of trails are groomed each winter. When spring comes, there are friendly races for all ages and visitors are always welcome.
