Grizzly Bear

Historically, grizzlies ranged throughout North America. But since they avoid areas used by humans, they’re now largely confined to the northern sections of the Northwest Territories Barrenlands and the western mountains. Some 3,500 grizzlies live in the Northwest Territories, with the largest concentration in the Mackenzie Mountains. They mature at six to nine years of age. Cubs are commonly born in pairs and will stay with their mother for about three years, resulting in very slow population growth.
