Ingraham Trail

Highlights:

  • Prelude Lake Territorial Park – scenic trails and boating
  • Cameron River Falls Park and Trails
  • Reid Lake Park – camping, boating and fishing, canoeing routes
  • Hidden Lake Park - river trails and scenic canoeing area

Ingraham TrailHeading east, Highway 4, the Ingraham Trail, leads to a series of lakes with parks, boat launches, picnic sites and campgrounds. There are seven boat launches in as many lakes along this scenic, 70 km route.

At the former Giant Mine site, the City of Yellowknife has a boat launch on Great Slave Lake beside a private sailing club. The Mining Heritage Society is developing a display nearby to commemorate the 70 year history of gold mining at Yellowknife. Further east, the Yellowknife River is part of an extensive canoe route along the highway and there's a boat launch and good fishing.

Prelude Lake Park, 28 km from Yellowknife, and Reid Lake Park, at 61 km, are popular spots with campers. Book your campsite in advance. Prelude Territorial Park has an attractive interpretive trail with lookout points over the lake. Both Prelude and Reid offer boat launches, good fishing and access to pleasant flatwater canoe trips. In winter, groomed and marked snowmobile trails lead from Reid Lake to local lodges.

Cameron River Falls trails lead to a pretty and unspoiled waterfall. Hidden Lake Park offers more opportunities for canoeing.

The Ingraham Trail ends abruptly at Tibbitt Lake. In winter, this is the start of the ice road supplying the diamond mines made famous by the Ice Road Truckers television series. The road is closed to private vehicles.

Fuel available at Yellowknife.
