A stronghold of Chipewyan and Métis culture, Fort Resolution was established in 1786 as a fur-trade centre on the Slave River Delta. Fort Resolution lost its importance when aircraft replaced the sternwheelers that used to carry traffic on the Slave River, Great Slave Lake and the Mackenzie River.
Today Fort Resolution is a base for sport fishing adventures and explorations on Great Slave Lake. Drive here via Highway 6.
Don't miss the historical marker that commemorates the first community established in the Northwest Territories. Accommodations include bed and breakfast in town and wilderness cabins and camping at Little Buffalo River.
