A National Historic Site

A National Historic SiteThe area around Fort Resolution has a long and colourful history. Alexander Mackenzie set up a trading post here over 200 years ago. The Slave River and the Slave River delta became the highway for northern trade in the early 1800s. Famous visitors on this route included Sir George Simpson (Fort Simpson), and Sir John Franklin and Dr John Richardson, who, in the 1820s, mapped much of Canada's Arctic coast. Today, though all evidence of the long past is gone, Fort Resolution is identified as a National Historic Site.
