Deline - "Where the Water Flows"

DelineDeline (pronounced day-li-neh) is located near the headwaters of the Bear River - Sahtu De- where it rushes out of Great Bear Lake on its journey to the Mackenzie. Deline offers a range of guided services to visitors, including fishing, boat cruises on the big lake, and guided sightseeing to Sahtu cultural icons, Sayoue (Grizzly Bear Mountain) and Edacho (Scented Grass Hills), National Historic Sites. Franklin’s Fort National Historic Site in Deline was a fur trading post, home in 1825 to one of the North’s most determined and unlucky explorers, Sir John Franklin. Nearby, there’s a place where the big lake seldom freezes over, even in the coldest winters, called the Deline Fishery. This was long a source of food for the Sahtugotine, the Bear Lake people. You can purchase superb beadwork in Deline, ask at the hotel. The comfortable hotel provides conference facilities for small groups and has a restaurant.
