Nahanni Country

Nahanni National Park Reserve is definitely one of Canada’s greatest treasures, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But Nahanni Country is more than the Park. It includes the Nahanni Range and communities nestling in the foothills in the southwest corner of the Northwest Territories. There's Fort Simpson, regional centre and Mackenzie River town with a 200 year history. And there's tiny Nahanni Butte, at the mouth of the South Nahanni River.

Whatever your mode of transport there's a Nahanni Country trip for you. Fly in for a day to visit Virginia Falls in Nahanni National Park Reserve. Air charter companies in Fort Simpson offer several packages. Paddle your way through Nahanni on the South Nahanni or Flat rivers. Travel by jet boat on the Mackenzie and North Nahanni rivers, for a weekend or a week at a lodge on a mountain lake in the Nahanni Range.

Hike the magnificent Ram Plateau, an exotic blend of high grasslands and mile deep canyons. Helihike the Nahanni Karst, considered unique in the world for its caves, towers and arches. Anglers love our pocket sized mountain lakes with superb scenery. Two mountain lodges cater to anglers, paddlers and hikers. Climbers can challenge the Cirque of the Unclimbables, accessible from yet another spectacular mountain lake.

For the ultimate Nahanni Country adventure, fly into the Nahanni Range by helicopter, hike to your heart's content, and relax in a pristine hot spring, not far from your base, a comfortable mountain camp on a jewel-like lake.
