The Ingraham Trail

The Ingraham Trail stretches 70 kilometers east of Yellowknife threading together over a dozen lakes. There are picnic spots, hiking trails, campgrounds and boat launches all along the highway. It is terrific fishing, hiking, boating and canoeing country.

Cameron Falls Trail

Located 46 km from Yellowknife. A scenic 20-minute hike from the parking lot takes you through stands of aspen, spruce and jack pine, where you're likely to spot whiskeyjacks and nighthawks. As you near Cameron Falls, the trail climbs over outcrops of sedimentary rock. Stairs span some sections, but several steep areas remain. At the viewpoint, you can admire the Falls and explore the side-trails. Walking 250 metres northeast will bring you to a bridge above the Falls that offers access into the rest of Hidden Lake Park. The park has been kept in its natural state, and there are no trails past this point. Trail Length: 1.2 km, moderate difficulty.

Prelude Lake Nature Trail

One of the most scenic trails in the Yellowknife area loops over granite hills and through woodlands. Be sure to pick up a trail guide, available at the campground office. Prelude Territorial Park is located 29 km east of Yellowknife. Turn left onto the Prelude Lake access road and drive past the campground to the day-use area. The marked trailhead is at the parking lot. Trail Length: 3 km.

Prelude Lake Panoramic Trail

A short, scenic path that leads you down to the shore of Prelude Lake, or up to three spectacular viewpoints. Sections of boardwalk and stairs assist you over the rocky outcrops. The destination is a large platform for viewing the lake's blue waters and distant islands.

Ranney Hill-Martin Lake Trail

A day-hike through mixed boreal forest, across rocky outcrops and beside blue lakes. When you reach the steep pink granite dome of Ranney Hill, climb 200 m to the top for a 360º panorama of the entire Yellowknife area. Back at the base of the hill, head west to Martin Lake, a quiet place to relax and enjoy nature. To reach the Ranney Hill-Martin Lake Trail, drive 6.6 km from Yellowknife along the IngrahamTrail, and turn left onto the Vee Lake Road. The trailhead is 500 m from the parking lot along Vee Lake Road on the right shoulder. Trail Length: 2.5 km, moderate difficulty.

Reid Lake Trail

Drive 61 km east to the turnoff for Reid Lake Campground. This short trail runs from the campground to the rocky shore of Reid Lake, passing over Shield rock deeply scored by glaciers and through patches of wild berries. Watch for eagles, whiskeyjacks and ravens. At the end of the trail, enjoy sparkling views of the lake. Trail Length: 0.7 km.

The Ingraham Trail offers access to several canoe routes in the Yellowknife area.
