Old Town

The City's historic Old Town retains some of its raffish "dirty thirties" excitement, when miners pitched tents and built wooden shacks on Willow Flats, Latham Island and every inch of the “Rock”. Hidden among the upscale housing are some of the old shacks and log buildings, lovingly preserved. To soak up vintage atmosphere, take a stroll along Ragged Ass Road. Around the shoreline there are quaint eateries, boat rentals and a constant buzzing of float planes taking visitors on fishing trips. Don’t miss the Pilot’s Monument, at the top of the “Rock”, the highest point in Old Town, and perfect for a breathtaking view of the city, nearby islands and the blue waters of Great Slave Lake.
